Overview

Ancient Origins is a compact 100-card set released in August 2015, concluding the Ancient Trait mechanic. The set introduced Hoopa EX, whose Scoundrel Ring ability to search for 3 EX Pokemon from the deck became a meta-defining staple. Mega Tyranitar EX and Mega Ampharos EX headline the Mega Evolution slots.

Most valuable cards

Mega Tyranitar EX Full Art (#92) leads the set at $25-45 near-mint with its dramatic artwork. Hoopa EX Full Art (#89) holds strong value at $20-35 due to competitive demand. Lugia EX Full Art and Mega Ampharos EX Full Art are each $15-25. The secret rare Primal Kyogre EX (#96) adds a cross-set collectible appeal.

At only 100 cards, Ancient Origins is one of the easiest XY sets to complete. The smaller card pool means better pull rates on chase cards. Look for collection boxes and blisters at retail, which occasionally still appear at discount stores.
