Generation III: Land, Sea & Sky
Generation III rebooted the Pokémon TCG with Pokemon-ex cards (basic or evolved Pokémon with 150-170 HP worth two Prizes on KO) and a clean slate after Wizards ended their Pokemon license. Ruby and Sapphire launched on Game Boy Advance in 2002 (Japan) / 2003 (North America), followed by Emerald in 2004-2005 and the Kanto remakes FireRed and LeafGreen in 2004. The TCG era opened with EX Ruby & Sapphire (June 2003) and ran through EX Power Keepers (February 2007). The Hoenn region introduced weather-themed Pokémon, the Rayquaza/Kyogre/Groudon weather trio, and the Eon duo (Latios/Latias). Gold Star rare cards — starting in EX Team Rocket Returns — became the era's premier chase pulls, culminating in the legendary Gold Star Rayquaza from EX Deoxys.

02 Are EX cards still tournament legal?
No — EX-era cards are long rotated from Standard and Expanded. They remain legal in Legacy and Unlimited casual play, and many of the mechanics (especially Gold Star and Delta Species) are popular in collector and heritage-format communities.
03 What was the meta deck of Gen 3?
Blaziken ex (fire-type ex with Firestarter Poke-Power) defined the first EX season. Later metas were dominated by Gardevoir/Gallade, Metagross ex/Rayquaza ex decks, and the legendary Flygon ex + Mightyena spread archetype. EX Power Keepers' Jolteon ex + Magneton decks closed the format.
04 Which Gen 3 starter cards are most collected?
Blaziken ex and the Blaziken Crystal-type reverse holo from EX Crystal Guardians are the most sought after. Swampert ex from EX Crystal Guardians and Sceptile ex from EX Team Rocket Returns also hold strong value, especially in first-edition Japanese printings.
